Handprints
As old as time
Imprints
Of a life gone by
A lonely impression
That begs your attention
Screaming
“I was here”
Will you remember me?

This image can be interpreted in many ways. But to me it speaks a story.

This is a particularly haunting poem. Your thoughts are so wonderful and valid, too. Lulu, children need to feel like they have a purpose and to be remembered. This made me a little sad, but you wrote it beautifully!

Hi Robin! I didn’t see it as a child’s print, but as hieroglyphics from an adult who didn’t know how else to communicate. Thus leaving us a story of their life, hoping someone will know they existed or to interpret and ponder or not.

simple – we should not add anything – watching or looking into the image is fantastic!!

Hi Miran! I agree. It’s like looking at a painting. We all walk away with our own impression.

We all want to leave something behind in this world. Something of our own creation; Children, knowledge, a house, a painting, a diary or maybe even just a footprint somewhere along the path we’ve been following until our time ran out. We want to leave behind proof, proof of our existance. We want to be remembered by time and not to be forgotten with time. We want our existance here to be acknowledged by the one’s following. We sometimes even want to guide those, who may follow the same path as we did. Show them where to turn and where not. We want to share the story of our journey, the story of our life. We want to be, to exist. We want to stay. We want our lives to have meant something. We simply want to matter – that’s all we want.

A great line of thought and I guess one of the central fears of mankind..the fear of being forgotten whether by your estranged lover, your children or the society at large. We all have the need to be remembered in some way..glad you wrote this in such an evocative way.
